About Professor Chee

Chee Bio

Professor Grace Chee: an Africanist/World Historian at the Los Angeles Community Colleges, and serves as the elected Treasurer, of the AFT1521, the 9-campus LA College Faculty Guild.  She also serves on the executive board of the World History Association (WHA).  Professor Chee embodies global citizenship and multi-culturalism in both teaching and service, because of her background as a child immigrant from South Korea, along with work and study abroad experience in Zimbabwe, South Africa, France, and Japan. As a world traveler and foodie, she weaves these multiple perspectives to teaching history.  Professor Chee’s teaching method is that of coach: a collaborative combination of Socratic questioning and guided discussions among students. This method reflects her philosophy of achieving educational goals through intellectual training, perseverance, and the compassionate collaboration of wonderful faculty and peers.

When Professor Chee is not discussing history, she enjoys talking to fish and children underwater, as an aquarium scuba diver presenter.
